A recent survey accross the public sector has revealed that the authority bosses are putting staff and the general public at risk by failing to mange their grey fleet drivers. It has been discovered that tens of thousands of council workers in England are using their own cars for work without the most basic of checks being carried out. 30 county councils took part in the enquiry and none of them carried out safety checks on the cars that were being used, and more than half did not have the procedure for checking that the vehicles had the correct insurance or were even mot'd. In a market where private business is facing up to the cost and administration burden of corporate road risk the public sector has a responsibility to do the same.
