Just like busy drivers, the car industry never stands still.
Since Henry Ford revolutionised automotive transport in 1908 with the introduction of the Model T, developers and manufacturers have been looking to improve on the existing technology to offer people a better driving experience.
Car leasing customers and others who like to keep abreast of the latest developments will be watching how hydrogen fuel cell-powered cars affect modern life.
The low carbon system is thought by many to be the answer to the problems the car industry has had with high fuel costs and harmful carbon dioxide emissions.
Dr Ben Lane of Next Green Car – a company which provides advice on environmentally-friendly vehicles – said that authorities were trying to change a lot of the British road network to accommodate the technology.
"A number of projects are aiming to make the M4 the UK’s 'hydrogen highway'. Most of the infrastructure that has been developed has been done so along that corridor," he stated.
However, Dr Lane believes there are still some complications with hydrogen fuel cells that are preventing the technology from becoming incorporated into the mainstream.
He explained that the major problems were surrounding the cell's durability. Currently, manufacturers cannot guarantee that the power cells will still be effective in 15 years' time, as continued usage causes the components to be less effective.
According to the expert, hydrogen fuel cells and electric vehicles will amalgamate in the future, as companies seek a viable alternative to fossil fuel power sources.
"There is a whole spectrum of different types of electric vehicle and they are a possible future destination," he added.
Last month, Dr Green said that another obstacle which was preventing alternatively-powered cars from becoming more common was the price.
With this in mind, people looking to see if they can save fuel expenditure by using a hydrogen cell model could use a car leasing scheme to cut out many of the prohibitive upfront costs.
