Car leasing customers may soon be able to mix the traditional advantages of electric vehicles with an increased range.
Renault has announced that it has delivered several models of its new Fluence Z.E. to the UK.
The saloon is the first private hire car to arrive in the country that is 100 per cent electric and can travel up to 115 miles on a single charge of the batteries.
According to the manufacturer, the Fluence offers car leasing customers previously-unseen levels of comfort due to its silent ride and well-appointed and well-equipped interior.
Thierry Sybord, managing director of the French firm's UK operations, said: "Renault is the only company to be offering a full range of electric vehicles. We're charging ahead with the launch of the first Z.E. models and have great ambitions for them."
He added that the new car will be the perfect way to be serenely transported around the urban sprawl of London.
Renault has been at the forefront of the initiative to improve the quality of air in the capital before this year's Olympic Games.
Recently Transport for London added six Kangoo Van Z.E.s to its fleet to help staff clean Victoria Coach Station, 44 bus stations and 64 bus stands across the city. It is thought the move will reduce the authority's carbon dioxide emissions by 5.3 tonnes during the next four years.
With the city recently extending the regulations around the low emissions zone (LEZ), drivers and businesses looking to head into London for the day, but wanting to avoid the high congestion charges, could opt to hire a Fluence, Kangoo or other low-emission vehicle.
Recently, Natalie Chapman, head of policy for London at the Freight Transport Association, said: "For tradespeople that operate vans which are over ten years old the LEZ will be much more of an issue and will almost certainly bring serious consideration to renewing old vehicles for operators keen to avoid a heavy fine."
