New businesses have been told that they rarely need to purchase a van.
CourierPros is a community of aspiring small delivery business owners and the group stated that van leasing often makes more financial sense.
Sam Knowlton, co-founder of the organisation, said that firms rarely need the full capacity of a van and in the early days of a business, owners may be better spending the money on marketing strategies or hiring sales talent.
He explained that it is always easy to hire a van when they are needed.
Van leasing can be a good way for new organisations to avoid the expensive upfront costs of privately purchasing a vehicle.
"If you don't need the space and you're paying for the van, that's money that you're not spending on growing your business," he added.
The expert stated that when purchasing or hiring a van, businesses should consider fuel economy to be the most important factor.
