Soaring costs of young drivers' car insurance does not deter the purchase of faster cars

Younger drivers are continuing to try and get car insurance cover for high powered cars with faster engines even despite the extremely high insurance premiums.

The main bulk of young drivers still to prefer to choose cars with very powerful engines rather than deciding to be more prudent by deciding to purchase smaller, slower but more cost effective cars to run and insure.

It is further found that the largest users of website comparison insurance car sites are those drivers who are aged between 17yrs to 21yrs and 63% of them are enquiring about insurance quotes for those cars that have an engine size which is larger than 1250cc.

Even modified car insurance has proven to be too expensive for the majority of young drivers to afford yet they are still not deterred by the very high car insurance premiums when they could clearly save themselves much more money from choosing a car with a smaller engine.

Studies carried out support the whole theory behind  the phrase 'boy racers,' given that nearly two 3rds of the males aged between 17-21 years have been statistically found to drive cars with engines larger than 250cc.

However, out of the female 17 - 21 year old statistics there are just over 50% who drive cars with the more powerful engines of 250cc or over and their male counterparts, it has been found, are the most likely (twice as likely), to get an insurance quote for a modified car.

Hayley Parsons of Gocompare.com said "While young drivers are savvy about using comparison sites to get a better deal on their insurance, the majority still haven't got the message that ‘small is beautiful' when it comes to choosing a car."

To insure a car as a young driver has always been notoriously expensive continued Hayley Parsons although it is possible to make huge savings if you shop around but this is an expensive insurance product in the market for young people.

If you truly wish to avoid heavy car insurance premiums in the current difficult financial climate then it is advised that young people consider a car with an engine of a size smaller than 250cc.  Additionally, do not choose cars that have been modified in anyway, take a pass plus test and shop around for the best deals, this should guarantee huge savings.
